Early Hands-On of Intel Convertible Classmate

Laptop Mag scored a hands-on with a pre-production unit of the upcoming Intel Convertible Classmate. And they seemed to like it.

The touchscreen sequel to the original Classmate, the Convertible Classmate will pack the typical netbook 1.6 GHz Intel Atom, 60 GB hard drive, and Windows XP. Its touchscreen is 8.9 inches.

Laptop liked it, however, noting that the system handles XP by providing a touch-friendly Home menu that's supposed to be fairly decent. Newly bundled software includes a virtual keyboard and handwriting recognition to take advantage of the responsive touchscreen—plus there should be more apps from developers on the way. Also, integrated accelerometers successfully tracked whether the computer was in portrait or landscape mode, adjusting accordingly in 2 seconds.

If you like netbooks, CES 2009 will be chock-full of them. Intel's latest Classmate iteration looks solid, but we'll see what we think when the competitors show up.

Mac Mini Successor to Appear In January

Apparently, after a long update hiatus the successor to the current Mac mini could finally appear at MacWorld 2009. At least, that's what Gadget Lab says:

Apple will launch an upgrade to its low-end desktop, the Mac Mini, at January's Macworld Expo in San Francisco, according to an Apple corporate employee who contacted Wired.com.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous (to keep his job), could not disclose details about the Mac Mini other than its upcoming announcement at Macworld Expo, which begins Jan. 5.

Wired seems confident about the leak, but doesn't offer any other solid information. They speculate on the specs based on the current product line, like an aluminum brick design (not sure why this would be useful in a desktop computer), DisplayPort, and 4GB of RAM maximum, with 2.0-GHz Core 2 Duo and a 2.3-GHz Core 2 Duo.

iPod FM Audio Transmitter

iPod FM Audio Transmitter

There's nothing more irritating the moronic DJs on annoying radio stations. So give them the switch-off and instead become the DJ yourself by beaming the contents of your iPod to your very own radio.

By acting as a tiny short-range transmitter, this clever little device turns the output of your iPod into an FM radio signal that can be picked up by any FM receiving device in close range, whether you're on the move, in the office or at home.

It's compatible with any iPod 30-pin dock connector, so works with many of the current crop of iPods from the Clever Mr Jobs, and, better still, powers directly from the device itself - so it doesn't require an auxiliary power source. (It will still allow you to charge and play at the same time). Magical.

Then, your iPod becomes a wireless music device, displaying the broadcast frequency on its screen, making it a veritable piece of fruit cake to tune in to your very own version of Pod FM.

Then it's get down, daddy-o, whether you're grooving to Level 42 on the M42, or rockin on' to 54321 on the M876. Wonderful.

Philips Norelco Arcitec Shaver

Philips Norelco Arcitec Shaver
If you are looking for one the most technologically advanced razors on the market, then look no further than the Philips Norelco Arcitec Shaver. This revolutionary shaver was specifically designed to give you the closest, smoothest, and quickest shave. Three rotary heads are placed on a proprietary pivoting support that can swivel across many different ranges of motion, and because each rotary head operates independently from one another, the razor adapts to your face and yields an exceptionally close shave with continual skin contact. Your face and the shaver become one.

To speed up shaving, this razor was designed with three concentric rotary shaving tracks that boast 50% more shaving surface than the conventional automatic razor. Both long whiskers and short stubble are cut through a special slot-and-hole design.

The stainless steel blades can easily be cleaned under the tap, and if you wish to groom a mustache or sideburns, a slide-up trimmer is built into the easy-to-grip handle. While many other razors can hold a cordless charge for several hours, the Philips Norelco Arcitec Shaver uses a lithium-ion battery that can sustain roughly three weeks of cordless shaves. If you are not sure how much charge you have left, you can look at an LED display that calculates the number of minutes remaining before the charge runs out. At only 6" long, this shaver is both sleek and powerful.
